Ventura Teen Charged with Felonies After Fleeing Police on Freeway

A 17-year-old resident of Ventura, California, has been charged with two felony counts after allegedly fleeing police officers by riding an electric motorcycle the wrong way on a highway.

According to authorities, the juvenile reached speeds of 60 mph while traveling northbound in southbound lanes of Kimball Road, weaving through traffic before entering the wrong side of State Route 126.

The incident occurred during a sting operation at Ventura Community Park on June 10 when officers attempted to stop the rider for riding an e-motorcycle on grass. The teenager evaded capture for several minutes before abandoning his $5,000 motorcycle in an alley.Prosecutors filed eight charges, including evading a peace officer, reckless driving, and operating without a license.

The case highlights growing concerns about e-motorcycle safety, as law enforcement agencies across Southern California report an increase in incidents involving minors. The juvenile is scheduled to appear in juvenile court on July 20.

Authorities emphasize that electric motorcycles must comply with the same regulations as traditional motorcycles, requiring licenses, registration, insurance, and helmets. This incident underscores the dangers of high-speed street racing and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
