Water Supply Resumes in Karachi After Dhabeji Pumping Station Power Restoration

Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) announced that water supply to several areas of Karachi has resumed in phases following the restoration of electricity at the Dhabeji pumping station. The power outage, which lasted around 22 hours, began on Sunday afternoon due to a cable fault.KWSC spokesperson Abdul Qadir Shaikh stated that K-Electric restored power at 7:20am on Monday, leading to the gradual resumption of water services.

The prolonged outage caused a shortfall of nearly 48 million gallons of water, affecting neighborhoods like North Nazimabad, Gulberg Town, and Landhi. The Dhabeji pumping station, Karachi’s primary water intake point, relies heavily on uninterrupted electricity. The incident highlights the vulnerability of critical infrastructure to power disruptions.KWSC noted that 19 out of 22 pumps at Dhabeji are operational, with a team working to resolve the fault.

This incident follows a similar power outage at the K-2 Pumping Station earlier this month, underscoring systemic challenges in maintaining reliable water services in Karachi.
