Somali World Cup Referee Omar Artan Barred from Entering the United States and Removed from Tournament Duties
The Chicago White Sox have promoted outfield prospect Braden Montgomery to the major league roster, continuing the organization's youth movement and rebuilding effort.
Montgomery, 23, was originally selected 12th overall by the Boston Red Sox in the 2024 MLB Draft before being traded to Chicago as part of the package that sent Garrett Crochet to Boston.Along with catcher Kyle Teel, Montgomery was one of the key prospects acquired in that deal.Montgomery earned the promotion after an outstanding 2026 season across Double-A and Triple-A.In 56 games, he produced a .314 batting average, a .422 on-base percentage, and a .548 slugging percentage while hitting 10 home runs, collecting 13 doubles and three triples, and posting a strong 15.1% walk rate.He has been particularly productive recently, batting .474 over his last 10 games while showing improved plate discipline.Scouts have long praised Montgomery's elite bat speed, significant power potential, athleticism, and strong throwing arm.Concerns remain about his tendency to strike out, but his recent improvement in that area has been encouraging.
The switch-hitting outfielder is expected to receive regular playing time in either center field or right field due to the White Sox's relatively unsettled outfield situation.
To make room for Montgomery on the roster, Chicago transferred veteran outfielder Austin Hays from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list. The club also made several additional roster moves involving Joe Rock, Rikuu Nishida, and David Sandlin.
Montgomery joins a growing group of young White Sox talents that includes Colson Montgomery, Miguel Vargas, Chase Meidroth, Jacob Gonzalez, and Sam Antonacci. The organization hopes he can become a long-term cornerstone as Chicago continues building toward future contention.
