A new wildfire near Boston Bar, B.C., has more than quadrupled in size overnight, prompting ongoing evacuation orders for residents in the area.The Anderson Creek fire, which started beside Highway 1 south of Boston Bar, rapidly spread upslope and grew to 43.3 square kilometers (4,332 hectares) by Wednesday morning.This fire joins the Brunswick Creek and Ainslie Creek wildfires, which together span 234 square kilometers (23,438 hectares).The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) reported aggressive fire behavior, including fast-moving crown fires, due to hot and dry conditions.Crews face challenges with steep terrain and extreme fire behavior, making direct ground attacks unsafe.Evacuation orders remain in place as the Fraser Valley Regional District urged remaining residents to leave immediately.Highway 1 is closed between Anderson River Mainline and Jackass Summit, with Highway 5 as an alternate route.The fires are suspected to be human-caused, and authorities warn that even light winds could rapidly change fire behavior.Additional wildfires near Kimberley, B.C., also face heightened risks as temperatures rise.
