Wildfires have displaced over 250,000 people in southwestern France, with flames threatening the renowned Bordeaux wine region.French authorities ordered additional evacuations overnight, bringing the total to approximately 250,000 displaced residents.

The fire, fueled by record heatwaves, dry conditions, and strong winds, has burned an estimated 42,000 hectares (162 square miles) in the Gironde region.Interior Minister Laurent Nunez warned that the blaze behaved erratically, creating its own winds and advancing unpredictably toward Bordeaux.

Over 2,500 firefighters, 18 aircraft, and 1,500 military personnel are working to contain the fire, with international assistance from European countries.

The blaze has forced evacuations in multiple regions, including the Landes and Var areas, and is part of a broader wildfire crisis across Spain and France.Authorities have also reported over 5,700 excess deaths linked to the historic summer heatwave.
