X-Bow certified for full-scale rocket motor production as Pentagon seeks to expand supply chain

U.S.defense startup X-Bow Systems has achieved a key milestone by receiving certification for full production operations at its Texas facility, marking a significant step in efforts to strengthen the country’s solid rocket motor supply chain. The certification was obtained in collaboration with the U.S.

Air Force Research Laboratory under the RE-ARM (Rapid Energetics & Advanced Rocket Manufacturing) program, which focuses on advancing scalable and efficient missile manufacturing technologies.

This development comes as the Pentagon faces growing pressure to replenish missile stockpiles amid ongoing global conflicts, including those in Ukraine, Israel, and Iran. For years, the U.S.rocket motor market has been dominated by a small number of suppliers, primarily Northrop Grumman and L3Harris.X-Bow’s entry into full-scale production represents an effort to diversify suppliers and improve production resilience.

The company’s Texas facility includes two main systems: a fixed-site production plant for manufacturing propellant and a modular system known as the Rocket Factory in a Box (RFIB).

The RFIB consists of portable, container-based units that can be rapidly deployed to different locations, allowing flexible and surge manufacturing during emergencies or wartime demand spikes.Additionally, the Gen-0 production system at the site is designed to transition operations from prototype development to industrial-scale output.

X-Bow uses its proprietary Advanced Manufacturing of Solid Propellant (AMSP) technology, which it claims offers improved precision, efficiency, and adaptability compared to traditional methods. The company has already secured a U.S.Navy contract tied to the Standard Missile program, further validating its role in the defense ecosystem.

Defense officials emphasize that expanding production capacity and adding new suppliers are critical to maintaining national security and meeting long-term military demands.

The Air Force Research Laboratory has highlighted the importance of scalable manufacturing systems to ensure rapid and sustained missile production capability in future conflicts.
