Two fisherfolk associations in Zambales have expressed support for a peaceful, diplomatic resolution of tensions in the West Philippine Sea, backing a national fishers’ group’s call to demilitarize the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

The Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) announced this position following consultations with local groups like the Subic-based Samahan ng Cabangaan 3 Fishermen’s Unity and the Fisherfolk Association in Wawandue.

These organizations committed to campaigning for EEZ demilitarization, emphasizing peaceful efforts to assert sovereign rights, particularly at Scarborough Shoal (Bajo de Masinloc).

Roselyn Regalado, president of Samahan ng Cabangaan 3, stated Zambales fishers reject foreign military escalation and oppose using their communities as pawns in geopolitical conflicts.
