The Zamfara State Government has started the disbursement of ₦500 million as gratuity to the fourth batch of retired local government workers under its 2025 retirement benefits exercise.The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr.
Ahmad Garba Yandi, who explained that the payment is part of the government’s ongoing effort to clear outstanding gratuity arrears and improve the welfare of pensioners in the state.
According to him, earlier batches of retirees had already benefited from similar payments, showing that the programme is being implemented in phases to ensure orderliness and accountability.
Yandi stressed that the release of funds followed proper verification and documentation processes to ensure that only eligible beneficiaries receive payments.
He added that the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal remains committed to transparency, fairness, and timely settlement of entitlements owed to retired workers across the local government system.The commissioner further noted that the initiative is aimed at restoring dignity to retirees who have served the state diligently over the years.He also commended the governor for prioritising the welfare of pensioners despite the economic and administrative challenges facing the state.According to him, the government is carrying out reforms to ensure that gratuity and pension payments are handled more efficiently going forward.
The ministry reassured retirees that the payment process will continue in batches until all verified beneficiaries are fully paid in line with government policy.This development is seen as part of broader efforts by the state government to clear backlogs and strengthen trust in public service welfare systems.
