Zanzibar invests in early childhood development to boost future workforce

Zanzibar has launched a Sh500 million facility called the Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi Childcare Centre as part of the Adopt an ECD Centre Initiative, aimed at strengthening early childhood development (ECD).

The project, funded by Stanbic Bank Tanzania and supported by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar and Save the Children International, will provide childcare, early learning, nutrition, healthcare, and child protection services for up to 60 children daily.

Second Vice President Hemed Suleiman Abdulla emphasized the importance of ECD in building a skilled workforce, while State Minister Dr Saada Mkuya Salum highlighted the need for Sh205.2 billion over five years to implement the ZMSECDP programme.

Stanbic Bank’s investment is seen as a strategic move to support Zanzibar’s long-term socio-economic goals, aligning with the Zanzibar Development Vision 2050.

The initiative reflects collaboration between government, private sector, and development partners to empower communities and unlock the potential of future generations.
