Citizens and political leaders across Zanzibar have celebrated a landmark reconciliation agreement between the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party and opposition party ACT Wazalendo, viewing it as a critical milestone toward healing political divisions and fostering sustainable development in the semi-autonomous archipelago.

The agreement, reached after discussions following the October 2025 General Election, has sparked optimism among Zanzibaris who see it as an opportunity to move beyond years of political tensions that have threatened the islands' stability.

Residents and leaders praised the development as a demonstration of political maturity and a commitment to prioritizing national interests over partisan ideologies.Abubakar Rashid, a Mombasa resident, reflected on past divisions and credited President Hussein Mwinyi for bridging divides.

Zahor Khamis Zahor from Michenzani emphasized Zanzibar's capacity to resolve challenges through dialogue, while Maryam Sultan Mohammed called for continued cooperation to ensure tangible benefits for citizens.CCM Zanzibar Secretary Khamis Mbeto Khamis attributed the achievement to national unity efforts outlined in the 1984 Zanzibar Constitution.

ACT Wazalendo's Salum Dimani stressed the need for implementation, stating citizens require development, democracy, and mutual respect rather than political conflict.

The agreement marks the fifth reconciliation effort since multiparty politics began in Zanzibar, with leaders expressing confidence it will strengthen peace and solidarity among Zanzibaris.
