Ramaphosa faces legal challenges over Phala Phala inquiry
King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has dismissed Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi as Traditional Prime Minister of the Zulu nation for the second time, replacing him with Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza.
The decision follows allegations that Buthelezi misrepresented the King's stance on the Ingonyama Trust to Parliament, which administers over three million hectares of land in KwaZulu-Natal.
The King accused Buthelezi of claiming the Trust would be directly managed by him while reporting to the Premier for accountability, a claim Buthelezi denied.
The dismissal was triggered by Buthelezi's apology to Shembe Nazareth Baptist Church leader Inkosi Mduduzi Nyazilwezulu Shembe over a leaked video where the King called him an idiot.
Chiliza, who has served as deputy Traditional Prime Minister since 2024, will now act as the King's principal traditional adviser, coordinating royal affairs.
The King has removed several senior appointees since ascending the throne, including Prince Thulani of eZibindini and Prince Simphiwe of kwaMinyamanzi.
This marks the latest in a series of reconfigurations within the Zulu royal administration, reflecting ongoing tensions over governance and land management.
