A 65-year-old man from Malmesbury has been arrested and charged with drug dealing and illegal firearm possession following a police operation in Wesbank.

Authorities seized mandrax, ecstasy tablets, a pistol with ammunition, a blank firearm, and R47 799 in cash during a raid on a property opposite Schoonspruit Secondary School.The arrest followed reports of suspicious activity linked to ongoing gang violence in the area.Police spokesperson Andrè Traut confirmed officers conducted stop-and-search operations and patrols, leading to the discovery of drugs and weapons.The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, is expected to appear in Malmesbury Magistrate’s Court.The incident occurred near a site of a recent mass shooting, raising concerns about local crime.A separate arrest in Hanover Park involved a 43-year-old man found with an unregistered 9mm pistol.These incidents highlight persistent challenges with gun crime and drug trafficking in the region.
