A multi-departmental operation was launched in Durban's Central Business District to address a building identified as a major crime generator.The operation, conducted on Lancers Road near health facilities and taxi ranks, involved police, city officials, and various departments including water, electricity, and waste management.The building, described as a hub of illegal activities, was found to have residents engaging in prostitution, drug use, and 24/7 parties.

Authorities noted non-compliance with by-laws, illegal electricity connections from a nearby substation, and lack of basic services like water and sanitation.Residents, many from rural areas seeking work, faced poor living conditions with no formal waste management.

The operation aims to compile data and develop a comprehensive plan to address the building's issues, highlighting systemic challenges in urban governance and public safety.
