A 22-year-old man in Abia State was arrested by police after using a stainless lighter, designed to look like a pistol, to rob members of the public.The suspect, from Obinolu Ngodo Isiochi, was apprehended on July 5, 2026, by operatives of the Isuochi Divisional Police Headquarters following intelligence reports.

According to the police statement by DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the man had a history of targeting unsuspecting victims with the lighter, instilling fear and stealing their belongings.During his arrest, other items linked to the crimes were recovered.The police urged citizens to report any security issues to nearby stations or emergency lines.This incident highlights the increasing creativity of criminals in using everyday objects as weapons, posing challenges for law enforcement.It also underscores the need for heightened public awareness and community vigilance to prevent such crimes.
