AFI frontman Davey Havok has revealed the absurd suggestions he received from his major label during the creation of the band's 2006 album 'Decemberunderground'.The musician reflected on the challenging period surrounding the album's production in a recent interview with Metal Hammer.At the time, AFI was signed to DreamWorks Records, which had been absorbed by Interscope.

The label's A&R representative pushed for the band to collaborate with Jimmy Iovine's favored artist, 50 Cent, despite Havok's confusion over the suggestion.Even more unusual was the proposal to create a ringtone album, a trend that dominated the music industry at the time.

While some tracks from 'Decemberunderground' were later released as ringtones, AFI never pursued a full ringtone album or collaborated with 50 Cent.The album, which topped the US Billboard 200, included hits like 'Miss Murder' and 'Love Like Winter'.NME praised the album's 'crunching call to arms' and described 'Miss Murder' as 'sublime'.

AFI's latest album, 'Silver Bleeds The Black Sun…', was released in October 2025, and the band is set to tour the UK in August 2026, joining festivals like All Points East's Outbreak event and Deftones' Día De Los Deftones festival in San Diego.
