Africa Clean Cooking Summit in Nairobi Rescheduled as Organisers Cite International Travel Challenges

The 2026 Summit on Clean Cooking in Africa, which had been planned for 9–10 July in Nairobi, has been postponed following concerns over international travel and participation.

According to a joint statement released by the summit's co-chairs and co-organisers, the decision was made after assessing ongoing uncertainties and evolving circumstances that could affect the ability of key delegates and stakeholders to attend the event in person.

The summit was expected to attract a wide range of participants, including African heads of state, development partners, financiers, energy sector leaders and other stakeholders involved in advancing clean cooking solutions across the continent.

Organisers noted that logistical difficulties and travel-related challenges created significant uncertainty around attendance, leading to the decision to delay the gathering.Despite the postponement, organisers emphasised that commitment to Africa's clean cooking agenda remains strong.

They stated that efforts to promote access to cleaner and more sustainable cooking technologies will continue and that the summit's objectives remain unchanged.A new date for the physical event has not yet been announced, but organisers indicated that further details will be communicated in due course. To maintain momentum and engagement among stakeholders, a high-level virtual session will still take place on 9 July as originally scheduled.

The online event will be broadcast through the digital platforms of the International Energy Agency (IEA), allowing policymakers, investors and development partners to continue discussions on clean cooking initiatives across Africa while preparations for the rescheduled summit continue.
