The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission has announced that elections in the region, originally scheduled for July 27, will now be conducted in three phases ending on August 10.The decision was made due to the unavailability of security forces amidst ongoing operations in the provinces.

The first phase will involve polling in 13 constituencies of Mirpur division on July 27, followed by nine constituencies in Muzaffarabad division and all 12 refugee constituencies on August 2.The final phase will cover 11 constituencies in Poonch division on August 10.This adjustment aims to ensure smooth conduct of elections while addressing security challenges.

The commission, led by retired Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mughal, emphasized the importance of maintaining electoral integrity despite the logistical complexities.The announcement highlights the delicate balance between administrative planning and security concerns in the region.Election officials have reiterated their commitment to transparency and fairness, urging voters to stay informed about the revised schedule.This development underscores the broader implications of security dynamics on electoral processes in conflict-affected areas.
