Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has strongly condemned the alleged attack on Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in West Bengal, where BJP workers reportedly hurled eggs at her during a visit to the Nadia district.

The incident is said to have taken place when Moitra was attending a party-related programme in the Kaliganj area, after which she alleged that protesters gathered outside the venue, raised slogans against her, and engaged in disruptive behaviour.According to her statement, the police remained inactive during the incident, which she described as a serious lapse in law and order.

Reacting to the incident, Yadav posted on social media platform X, criticising the BJP and accusing it of creating an environment of political hostility and violence, particularly in states where it is in power.He described the alleged act as highly condemnable and urged both the judiciary and the Lok Sabha Speaker to take immediate cognisance of the matter.He also claimed that such actions reflect a broader trend of political aggression that is affecting democratic discourse in the country.Moitra, in her remarks, alleged that BJP workers were responsible for the attack and that slogans such as ‘go back’ were raised against her.She further claimed that the law and order situation in West Bengal has deteriorated and accused the police of failing to intervene.

The incident has triggered political reactions, with opposition leaders calling for accountability and strict action, while the matter continues to be discussed in political circles.
