According to the report from Channels Television, the High Court for Ikot Abasi Local Government Area inside Akwa Ibom State don sentence one Israel Emmanuel Jacob to life imprisonment for the rape of a thirteen-year-old girl.The matter happen when the young girl mother send her to one nearby farm to collect cassava stems wey dem go plant for the farming season.Unfortunately, the girl meet this man Jacob for the farm.The prosecution explain say Jacob use intimidation on the small girl.He accuse her falsely of stealing the cassava stems and threaten to report her to the farm owner except she agree to sleep with am.When the girl refuse, Jacob grab her by force, tear her underwear and rape her repeatedly.The poor child shout and cry out for help but nobody come to rescue her.After the wicked act, Jacob run away from the scene but police later arrest am.During the trial, the judge, Justice Ini-Abasi Udobong, listen to all the evidence wey the prosecution present.The judge conclude say the case against Jacob don prove beyond reasonable doubt.As result, the only option be to give am life jail term as the law require for such serious offence against small children.This kind judgment dey show say Nigerian courts no dey joke with cases of rape especially when e involve minors.Parents and guardians suppose dey very careful where dem send their children, especially to farms or lonely places.The case also highlight the need for better security around rural areas and quick response when children raise alarm.Society must join hand to protect our young girls from predators like this.The victim and her family go need proper counselling and support to recover from the trauma.This verdict na big warning to all those wey dey think say dem fit take advantage of small children without facing heavy consequences.
