Ragnarok Console Project, a New Story-Driven RPG, Set for Multi-Platform Release in 2027
Amazon will take a larger role in the publication of future James Bond video games after the release of 007 First Light.According to Jeff Gattis, General Manager of Gaming at Amazon, the company did not develop or publish 007 First Light because IO Interactive had already secured a deal to create and self-publish the game before Amazon gained control of the James Bond intellectual property. The original agreement was made when MGM and EON Productions oversaw the Bond franchise.
After Amazon acquired MGM in 2021 and later obtained full creative control of the James Bond brand in 2025, the company's involvement in the gaming side of the franchise increased.
While Amazon and MGM collaborated with IO Interactive to ensure 007 First Light aligned with the Bond brand, future sequels are expected to be published by MGM and Amazon Game Studios.IO Interactive is still likely to remain the primary developer of future Bond titles. The shift means Amazon will not only provide financial backing but may also have greater influence over the direction of future games.
Gattis explained that Amazon sees video games as an opportunity to expand and connect its film and television properties, creating stronger cross-media franchises. He cited Tomb Raider as an example, with games and a Prime Video television adaptation being developed alongside one another.A sequel to 007 First Light appears highly likely given the game's strong commercial performance, reportedly selling 1.5 million copies within its first 24 hours. The game itself hints at future installments with a closing message stating that James Bond will return.
IO Interactive has previously expressed interest in creating a trilogy of Bond games, suggesting that the franchise could continue for years under Amazon's publishing oversight.
