FG upgrades Katsina Emergency Operations Centre to strengthen disease outbreak response
The Anambra State Government has directed all mortuary owners and operators across the state to register their facilities or renew expired licences as part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening regulation within the health sector.
The directive was issued through a public notice signed by the Director of Medical Services in the Ministry of Health, Dr Chukwulobelu Ugochukwu, on behalf of the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike.According to the notice dated May 29, 2026, operators have until June 5, 2026, to complete the registration and renewal process.
The government explained that the exercise aligns with the healthcare reform agenda of Governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration and is intended to improve oversight of mortuary operations in the state.
Authorities stated that the Ministry of Health is updating its database of mortuary facilities to ensure proper monitoring, regulation, and compliance with public health laws.
The notice also clarified that hospitals offering mortuary services must register their mortuary units separately, even if the hospitals themselves are already registered.
Mortuaries that have never been registered with the Directorate of Medical Services are required to begin the process immediately, while those with expired licences must renew them without delay.
State officials said the initiative will help sanitise the health sector, improve regulatory compliance, reduce unlawful practices linked to the handling of corpses, and strengthen disease-control measures during outbreaks. The government warned that enforcement and inspection activities will begin after the deadline.Any mortuary facility operating without proper registration or a valid licence may face sanctions in accordance with existing laws. The authorities stressed that compliance is mandatory for all affected operators.
