ANC Women’s League set to remove Sisisi Tolashe following Integrity Commission findings

The ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) is poised to remove Sisisi Tolashe from her position as president at a special national executive committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Saturday.

This follows adverse findings from the ANC Integrity Commission, which found Tolashe guilty of four counts, including abuse of women, and recommended her resignation from all leadership positions. Her support within the league has significantly weakened since the commission presented its report to the ANC NEC.

While previously only a minority called for her removal due to alleged abuse of her family’s domestic worker, the Integrity Commission’s findings prompted her backers to vote against her.Ramaphosa has already removed Tolashe from the Cabinet, appointing Sindisiwe Chikunga as acting minister of social development. The ANCWL emphasises that the final decision will follow proper disciplinary processes and a collective discussion within the league.

Meanwhile, some party members and opposition figures have expressed concerns that female leaders like Tolashe are being treated more harshly than their male counterparts facing similar or more serious allegations, raising issues of gender bias within the ANC.The ANCWL secretary-general confirmed that no formal decision on Tolashe’s removal has been made until the scheduled meeting.Despite the ongoing disciplinary process, Tolashe currently remains the ANCWL president.
