Angeles City hotel collapse death toll rises to 11 as retrieval operations continue
Rescue operations in Angeles City, Pampanga continued after the collapse of a nine-storey building under construction, with authorities confirming that the death toll has risen to 12 following the recovery of another victim early Monday morning, June 1.
According to the Angeles City Public Information Office, the body of the 12th casualty, identified as a male victim, was retrieved from the rubble at around 4 a.m.
Disaster Victim Identification procedures were immediately conducted by the City Health Office to ensure proper handling and identification of remains.The incident, which occurred at the construction site of the multi-storey building, has already resulted in multiple fatalities.
On the previous day, Sunday, rescuers had already recovered six bodies, highlighting the scale of the collapse and the ongoing difficulty of search and retrieval operations.
Local authorities have also released the identities of some of the victims, including Larry Sueno, 48; Elsa Angcao, 50; and her husband Joey Angcao, 48, among others still being identified.
Aside from recovery efforts, authorities have also implemented health and safety measures at the site, including disinfection procedures to protect responders working in hazardous conditions.
The investigation into the cause of the structural failure is ongoing, with two city building officials placed under preventive suspension as part of accountability measures.
Representatives of the building owner and contractor have publicly stated their willingness to cooperate and accept responsibility, as well as extend assistance to affected families.
Rescue and clearing operations are expected to continue as authorities search for any remaining victims and assess the structural integrity failures that led to the collapse.
