The African Democratic Party (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of holding former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in custody to suppress opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi claimed the APC government is using legal loopholes to prevent El-Rufai's release, arguing that his detention is a deliberate political move to weaken the opposition.

Abdullahi highlighted that El-Rufai's bail conditions are nearly impossible to meet, suggesting the government intends to keep him in custody until after the polls.He also raised concerns about El-Rufai's health, warning that the president would be held responsible if anything happens to him in detention.

The ADC accused the APC of orchestrating cases against them to limit voter choice in the 2027 elections, framing the Renewed Hope Agenda as a hollow slogan.El-Rufai faces multiple charges, including financial misconduct and wire-tapping, but the ADC insists his detention is politically motivated.The controversy underscores tensions between the ruling party and opposition ahead of the upcoming elections.
