Parents Arrested for Allegedly Forcing Son to Drink Acid and Strangle Him in Gujarat Murder Case
The Assam district authorities have ordered the deportation of Kayam Ansari, a man declared a foreigner by a Foreigners’ Tribunal in 2008.Under the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950, Ansari, a resident of Kherbari village in Sonitpur district, was directed to leave India and proceed to Bangladesh within 24 hours.
The order, issued by District Magistrate Karabi Saikia Karan, followed a report from the Superintendent of Police (Border) confirming Ansari’s Bangladeshi nationality. The authorities emphasized there were no pending legal cases against him, allowing immediate deportation. This follows the Gauhati High Court’s rejection of Ansari’s citizenship claim documents.
The Assam government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has been using the 1950 Act to bypass Foreigners’ Tribunals, pushing back over 300 foreigners to Bangladesh since 2025.
The Supreme Court’s 2024 judgment on Section 6A of the Citizenship Act granted the state government expanded powers to evict individuals deemed foreigners, reinforcing the legal basis for such actions.
The case highlights ongoing efforts to address illegal immigration in Assam, with authorities deleting Ansari’s electoral records and seizing his properties as part of the process.
