The flood crisis in Assam has escalated dramatically, with 21 additional fatalities reported in a single day, pushing the state's death toll to 31.Over 5.64 lakh people across 16 districts are now affected, according to the latest bulletin from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

Sivasagar district bore the brunt of the disaster, recording 13 deaths in 24 hours, followed by five fatalities in Charaideo, two in Golaghat, and one in Jorhat.The floods, triggered by a cloudburst upstream, have caused widespread devastation, submerging 872 villages across 44 revenue circles.Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has pledged to visit the worst-hit areas starting Wednesday to assess relief efforts.Over 3 lakh people are displaced, with 71 relief camps operational and 202 distribution centers functioning.The Brahmaputra and other rivers are flowing above danger levels, complicating rescue operations.Rail services remain disrupted, with Northeast Frontier Railway suspending trains in Sivasagar district.The government has activated intra-circle roaming for telecom to ensure connectivity in affected regions.Despite challenges, agencies like the Air Force, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Fire Services are actively engaged in rescue missions.
