Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed in an ambush in Manipur's Ukhrul district on Monday.The incident occurred around 1:30 pm at Nungshangohong village, where suspected militants planted three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along a bridge.As the convoy crossed, two IEDs exploded, followed by heavy gunfire from multiple directions.The attack was described as a coordinated strike, leading to an hour-long exchange of fire.Officials confirmed both deceased, warrant officer Balwant Singh and Rifleman CM Singh, were residents of Uttarakhand.They received initial medical aid at the Assam Rifles camp before succumbing to injuries.Manipur police stated operations are ongoing to neutralize militants, though the responsible group remains unidentified.The ethnic clashes in Manipur, involving Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, have caused over 260 deaths and displaced 60,000 people since May 2023.Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand condemned the violence, vowing legal action against perpetrators.
