Atiku Abubakar and Hayatu-Deen Agree to Strengthen ADC Coalition Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former Vice President of Nigeria and 2027 presidential hopeful on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has shared details of a recent closed-door meeting with fellow aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

The meeting took place at Atiku’s residence in Lagos State and focused mainly on the state of the nation, internal party matters, and the broader direction of the ADC coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Atiku, both politicians had frank and productive discussions about Nigeria’s current challenges and the need for political collaboration to move the country forward.

He stated that they both agreed to work together in the effort to “reclaim and rebuild” Nigeria, stressing unity and collective responsibility among party members.

The meeting is seen as part of ongoing reconciliation efforts within the ADC following a competitive presidential primary, which Atiku reportedly won but which was disputed by other aspirants including Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.Following his emergence as the party’s candidate, Atiku has also begun consultations around selecting a running mate.

Reports suggest that there is growing preference within party circles for a candidate from the South-East region, seen as strategically important for electoral balance.

Names being mentioned include former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, who has since left the party, and former Imo State governor Emeka Ihedioha, who is still within the ADC and is said to have contributed significantly to Atiku’s primary victory mobilisation efforts.

The development highlights ongoing political realignments within opposition ranks as the 2027 elections approach, with key figures attempting to consolidate support and manage internal party tensions while positioning themselves against the ruling party.
