Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong to attend Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has announced her visit to India to participate in the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting scheduled in New Delhi on 26 May 2026.During the visit, she will also hold the 17th Australia-India Foreign Ministers' Framework Dialogue with External Affairs Minister Dr S.Jaishankar.The meeting will also be attended by Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Penny Wong described the Quad as an important partnership in a period of global uncertainty, stating that Australia, India, Japan and the United States are working together to support a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

She highlighted that the Quad nations are cooperating in several priority areas, including maritime security, critical minerals supply chains, infrastructure development and disaster relief initiatives.

According to statements from Wong’s office, Australia and India are strengthening their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership through increased cooperation in trade, investment, defence, maritime security, climate and energy transition, strategic technology, education and skills development.

The Australian government also reiterated its commitment to expanding partnerships through regional coalitions such as the Quad amid growing geopolitical instability.The Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi will build upon earlier discussions held in Washington DC in July 2025.

The ministers are expected to review progress on ongoing Quad initiatives, discuss regional developments in the Indo-Pacific and exchange views on international issues of mutual concern.

The meeting reflects the continuing focus of the four countries on maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region and enhancing strategic coordination among member nations.
