Supreme Court mandates strict timelines for bail decisions and judgment delivery in High Courts
The National Testing Agency (NTA) and senior government officials have informed a parliamentary committee about ongoing steps to address concerns arising from recent NEET exam irregularities and paper leak incidents.
The CBI Director Praveen Sood assured the committee that the investigation into the NEET paper leak will be taken to a logical conclusion, with the possibility of further arrests depending on evidence.
The issue has raised serious concern among MPs, especially after reports of repeated leaks affecting a large number of students and leading to disruptions in the examination process. The NTA informed the committee that it is actively working to strengthen the examination system to prevent future leaks. One of the key measures being considered is the transition of NEET to a computer-based test (CBT) format from the next year.
Officials explained that CBT, combined with a significantly larger question bank, would allow multiple paper sets similar to other national-level exams like JEE, thereby reducing the risk of question paper leaks.
During the committee meeting, concerns were also raised about the impact of irregularities on students, particularly regarding delays in counselling and seat allocation.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) assured that the admission seat matrix and counselling process will be maintained on schedule to minimise disruption for candidates.Lawmakers urged authorities to ensure transparency and a foolproof system to protect student interests. The NTA also stated that it is in consultation with multiple stakeholders to improve the security and integrity of high-stakes examinations in India.
