Bandits ambushed a vehicle carrying the remains of late Deputy Corps Commander Augustine O.Ikwue of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), along with mourners, in Kogi State.The attack occurred on the Ochadamu-Ejule road in Ofu Local Government Area around 6pm on Thursday.The deceased officer died in Osogbo, Osun State, after a brief illness.

The abductors, believed to be armed kidnappers, contacted the deceased's wife via his cellphone, demanding N450m ransom for the victims' release.Kogi State FRSC Sector Commander Lawal Fagge confirmed the incident, stating nine mourners, including two FRSC operatives, were abducted.The corpse was later recovered and handed over to the family for burial in Otukpo, Benue State.Security forces, including the Army, police, hunters, and vigilantes, are actively searching for the kidnappers.Concerns have been raised over the bandits' disrespect for the dead.The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in the region.
