Tanzania Highlights Job Creation and Local Participation in EACOP Project Implementation
Barrick Mining Corporation has been named Tanzania’s leading taxpayer for the 2024/25 financial year, receiving top recognition at the Presidential Top Taxpayers Awards gala held in Dar es Salaam.
The ceremony, hosted at Mlimani City, formed part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), the country’s main tax collection body.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan attended as the chief guest and praised institutions that consistently comply with tax regulations, noting that tax revenue remains essential for funding national development projects and delivering social services.Barrick’s recognition reinforces its strong position as the biggest contributor from Tanzania’s mining sector.
The company operates through a strategic partnership with the government-owned Twiga Minerals Corporation and manages three major mining sites: North Mara, Bulyanhulu, and Buzwagi.These operations make a significant contribution to Tanzania’s gold production and government revenue.In addition to the award, President Samia recently commended Barrick for contributing 221.
9 billion Tanzanian shillings in dividends to the government, marking the highest dividend contribution from a public institution during the 2025/26 period.This highlights the company’s importance not only in tax payments but also in direct financial returns to the state.Barrick’s Residential Manager, Dr.Melkiory Ngido, expressed appreciation for the recognition and credited the success to the cooperation between Barrick and the Tanzanian government.He noted that the partnership model ensures that Tanzanians benefit more directly from mineral resources.The award reflects Tanzania’s growing focus on strengthening tax compliance and maximizing benefits from natural resources.
It also highlights the mining sector’s role in supporting economic growth, foreign exchange earnings, and infrastructure development across the country.
