Punjab authorises deployment of 6,000 police personnel to Gilgit-Baltistan for election security
PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, while addressing a rally in Shigar, Gilgit-Baltistan, emphasised that any future constitutional amendment must protect the rights of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.He highlighted that true progress for the region would come only if elections in GB are held simultaneously with the rest of Pakistan.
Bilawal criticised other political parties for centralising control in Islamabad, arguing that local decision-making is essential for development, ownership of resources, and financial progress in GB.
He questioned the relevance of the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, suggesting that political, financial, and administrative authority should be devolved to local assemblies.
He also stressed the PPP’s commitment to providing employment opportunities to the youth of GB and across Pakistan, linking this to granting the right to ownership of local resources.
In the lead-up to the June 7 elections, Bilawal urged citizens to vote for PPP candidates, assuring that the party demands only free and fair elections, and will not request favours or manipulate results. He explained the difference between Form-45 and Form-47, emphasizing voter responsibility to participate and secure transparent election results.Overall, his message centred on self-rule, economic empowerment, and ensuring democratic processes in Gilgit-Baltistan.
