Dr Praveena Sukhraj-Ely, a blind advocate with expertise in disability rights, governance, and constitutional law, has been appointed as acting director general of the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities.This appointment, announced by Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga, marks a significant step towards inclusive leadership in South Africa.

Sukhraj-Ely, who holds a PhD in Public Policy and a Master's in Political Science, has a proven track record in advancing inclusive governance, human rights, and policies addressing Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.
