The Toronto Blue Jays produced a dramatic late comeback to defeat the Baltimore Orioles 6–5 on Friday night after trailing by five runs entering the seventh inning.
Toronto had been held to just two hits through six innings, while Baltimore built a commanding lead powered by a combination of timely hitting and home runs.
The Orioles opened scoring early with Adley Rutschman drawing a bases-loaded walk in the third inning off Austin Voth, followed by a sacrifice fly from Samuel Basallo.
Baltimore then extended its advantage with a series of solo home runs from Jackson Holliday in the fourth inning, and Pete Alonso and Basallo hitting back-to-back long balls in the fifth.Despite the strong start, Baltimore’s pitching staff collapsed late.
Starter Trevor Rogers, who had been effective through most of his outing, failed to record another out in the seventh inning after Toronto began to mount pressure.
The Blue Jays struck with back-to-back two-run homers from Kazuma Okamoto and Charles McAdoo, the latter marking McAdoo’s first major league hit in his debut.The Orioles’ bullpen continued to unravel in the eighth inning when Yannier Cano surrendered the lead.George Springer and Ernie Clement sparked the decisive rally with consecutive singles, setting up Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who delivered a two-run double to complete the turnaround.Mason Fluharty earned the win in relief, improving to 3–0, while Braydon Fisher recorded his first career save after working the ninth inning.
Toronto’s offence finished the game with seven extra-base hits, showcasing a powerful late surge that has helped the team win eight of its last ten games.The Orioles, meanwhile, were left to reflect on a missed opportunity after their early dominance slipped away.The two teams are scheduled to meet again on Saturday, with Trey Yesavage set to start for Toronto against Baltimore’s Brandon Young.
