Cheptab expressed her heartbreak through an emotional social media post, saying it was cruel and unfair that such an ordinary errand ended in the loss of her mother's life. Her message has touched many Kenyans online, with many sending condolences and words of comfort to the grieving family.
She described how difficult it has been to come to terms with the sudden loss, especially because there was no chance to say goodbye after their last meal together.
