Hardeep Grewal, the Progressive Conservative MPP for Brampton East, is under investigation for alleged violations of election finance rules.The Ontario NDP alleges he failed to declare campaign advertising in a newspaper owned by his father, Jagdish Grewal, during the 2022 election.Public records show Jagdish owns the Punjabi Post, a local Punjabi language newspaper that featured large ads promoting Hardeep's campaign.The NDP claims some of these promotions involved public funds flowing from Grewal's office to his family's business.The complaint also extends to undeclared free advertisements in the Punjabi Post during blackout periods when political advertising is banned.Grewal admitted the 2022 ads were billed to his campaign but claimed they were inadvertently unpaid and have since been settled.Separately, he faces scrutiny over $27,000 in hotel expenses for Toronto stays despite his constituency office being 43 km away.Premier Doug Ford criticized such spending, demanding repayment from MPPs.The NDP has also raised concerns about Grewal's use of the constituency budget for advertising and alleged improper office space declarations.

Elections Ontario is reviewing the complaint, while the integrity commissioner’s office confirmed receipt but no investigation details were disclosed.
