British man's Iran jail sentence extended by two years, family says

A British man jailed in Iran after being accused of espionage has had two additional years added to his decade-long sentence, according to his family.

Craig Foreman, along with his wife Lindsay, was arrested in January 2023 while traveling through Iran on a motorcycle journey from Europe to Australia. Both deny espionage allegations and were initially sentenced to 10 years in prison in February.

However, relatives report Craig has been informed of an extended sentence for discussing his case with media from his cell in Tehran's Evin prison.

Family spokesperson Joe Bennett described the process as unjust, noting Craig was denied legal representation, a translator, and the chance to defend himself. The couple has been on hunger strike since May after being barred from contacting their families, with health concerns growing.A human rights group reported Craig has lost significant weight and Lindsay suffers from medical issues. The UK Foreign Office has urged caution for British nationals in Iran and is working to secure their return.UN experts have criticized the case as flawed, calling for their release. The family welcomes the appointment of a UK envoy to assist detained citizens.
