Bulls celebrate final Loftus game for Ruan Nortje and Kurt-Lee Arendse with emphatic win over Munster
The Bulls delivered a dominant performance at Loftus Versfeld, overpowering Munster 45-14 in their United Rugby Championship (URC) quarterfinal to book a place in the semifinals against Glasgow Warriors.
The home side started at a blistering pace, combining forward power and slick backline movement to score early tries through scrumhalf Embrose Papier and winger Kurt-Lee Arendse.
Their physical dominance up front allowed them to dismantle the Munster scrum, while Willie le Roux played a key role in creating attacking opportunities from deep.
However, despite the strong start, the Bulls allowed errors to creep into their game, including a costly collision between Gerhard Steenkamp and captain Marcell Coetzee, as well as a forward pass by Canan Moodie and an obstruction by Papier that prevented further scoring opportunities.Munster briefly capitalised on these mistakes, narrowing the gap to 17-14 after scoring two tries, but the Bulls quickly regained control.
Hooker Johann Grobbelaar forced his way over immediately after the restart, followed by a powerful lineout try from Cameron Hanekom, giving the hosts a comfortable 31-14 half-time lead.
In the second half, the Bulls maintained their defensive intensity and patience, frustrating Munster’s attempts to break through, particularly efforts led by centre Alex Nankivell.
Papier later sealed his standout performance with a second try, intercepting possession inside his own half and sprinting the length of the field unchallenged.Stravino Jacobs added another try after linking well with Le Roux in the corner.
Despite some scrappy passages of play and missed opportunities for an even larger winning margin, Bulls coach Johan Ackermann praised both the brilliance and inconsistency of his side, stressing the need for greater discipline and patience against a highly organised Glasgow team.He noted that the upcoming semifinal would be decided by fine margins, with Glasgow’s clinical defence posing a major challenge.
