Canon Business Machines Philippines (CBMP) will cease operations at its laser printer manufacturing facility in Batangas by June 2026, marking the end of Canon’s manufacturing presence in the Philippines and affecting approximately 1,400 employees.
The company cited global declines in office laser printer demand, evolving work habits, and the shift toward digital workflows as reasons for the shutdown. This closure is part of Canon’s broader strategy to scale back laser printer production globally, following earlier exits from China.
Although laser printers remain a key product alongside office multifunction devices and cameras, Canon has seen declining sales in this segment, with the latest annual report indicating a 4.6% year-on-year drop, especially in Europe and China. The company plans to focus on inkjet printers, digital commercial printing, industrial solutions, and cloud-connected office services.
The shutdown will only affect CBMP’s manufacturing operations and will not impact Canon Marketing Philippines, which will continue handling sales, marketing, and customer support normally.
Canon’s move reflects broader trends in the printing industry, where mature markets are gradually declining, prompting companies to adapt to changing technological and workflow demands.
