Catholic exorcist Carlos Martins describes alleged demonic experiences during his early ministry

Father Carlos Martins, a Canadian Catholic priest known for his work as an exorcist and host of The Exorcist Files podcast, has spoken about his personal experiences which he believes point to the existence of demonic forces.

According to Martins, his encounters with what he describes as a demon named 'Confusion' began before he entered the priesthood, during a period of atheism in his youth.

He claims the entity repeatedly appeared throughout different stages of his life, including during his early experiences observing exorcisms as a seminarian.

Martins alleges that this presence engaged in psychological manipulation, using knowledge of his personal history and attempting to unsettle him through what he interprets as mind games rather than purely physical phenomena. He states that demons, in his view, study individuals closely in order to exploit personal weaknesses and tailor temptations.

He also recounts early exorcism experiences in which he claims to have witnessed unusual phenomena such as levitation and other disturbances intended, in his interpretation, to intimidate inexperienced clergy.

The priest further explains that his experiences ultimately reinforced his religious beliefs, leading him to conclude that Christian teachings provide the most accurate understanding of reality.

He describes a moment during an exorcism in which the same entity allegedly told him he was “supposed to be one of us”, which he interpreted as significant.

Martins, ordained in 2009 after converting to Christianity in the 1990s, says that repeated exposure to such events has reduced his fear and strengthened his resolve in his ministry.

The account reflects his personal religious interpretation of exorcism cases and demonic encounters, which he presents as part of his pastoral and spiritual experience rather than empirical scientific evidence.
