Roof collapse at under-construction building in Lahore’s Baghbanpura kills child, injures five people
A tragic incident occurred in Lahore’s Baghbanpura neighbourhood where the roof of an under-construction house collapsed, resulting in the death of a child and injuries to at least four other people.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, the collapse happened on the third floor of the building, which gave way suddenly and trapped multiple individuals under debris.
Emergency responders quickly reached the site and launched a rescue operation with seven rescue vehicles and around 25 personnel actively engaged in clearing the rubble and searching for survivors.
One additional person was still reported to be buried under the debris at the time of reporting, raising concerns that the casualty count could increase. The injured victims were immediately given first aid on-site before being shifted to Services Hospital for further medical treatment.Authorities have stated that rescue operations were ongoing to ensure no one remained trapped.
The incident has once again highlighted serious concerns regarding construction safety standards in Pakistan, particularly in rapidly expanding urban areas like Lahore where under-construction structures often lack proper engineering oversight and use substandard materials.
This tragedy comes only two days after another devastating roof collapse at a tuition centre in Lahore’s Kahna area, which claimed the lives of 14 children, mostly aged between four and 12 years. That incident had already raised alarms across the city, with funeral prayers attended by hundreds of mourners.
Together, these repeated collapses point toward systemic issues in building regulation enforcement, poor compliance with safety codes, and the widespread use of low-quality construction materials, making such disasters unfortunately common.
