Nine monks killed in Thailand after 11-year-old drives pickup truck into religious procession
A tragic incident occurred in Lahore’s Baghbanpura neighbourhood on Thursday when the roof of an under-construction building collapsed, resulting in the death of an eight-year-old boy and injuries to five other people.According to police and local officials, the incident took place at a school building that was undergoing expansion work. The administration was reportedly extending a 14-marla structure by constructing an additional two-marla section.During the construction activity, debris and rubble from the roof gave way and fell onto the nearby road, leading to the fatal accident.
Baghbanpura Station House Officer Rizwan Khan stated that the collapse caused multiple casualties, including a bike rider and several construction workers.
In total, four men and one child sustained injuries, all of whom were immediately shifted to Services Hospital after receiving first aid from Rescue 1122 teams.Emergency responders deployed seven vehicles and around 25 personnel to carry out rescue operations and clear the site.
Authorities also clarified that some teachers from an adjacent school were temporarily moved away by police to avoid any unrest among the public, though no arrests were made.Officials emphasised that the situation was handled to prevent further escalation.
This incident comes just two days after another devastating roof collapse at a tuition centre in Lahore’s Kahna area, which claimed the lives of 14 children.
The repeated tragedies have raised serious concerns about construction safety standards, use of substandard materials, and weak enforcement of building regulations in Pakistan.Authorities and rescue agencies continue to urge stricter oversight to prevent further loss of life in similar preventable accidents.
