Grammy Award-winning singer Chris Brown pleaded guilty to a charge of affray during a hearing at London's Southwark Crown Court, bringing a significant development in a criminal case linked to an incident at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair in February 2023.

Brown, 37, had previously denied the allegations against him, including claims that he assaulted music producer Abraham Diaw with a bottle during a confrontation that prosecutors said was captured on the venue's surveillance cameras in front of numerous patrons.

As part of the agreement reached in court, prosecutors withdrew the more serious charges of assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon in exchange for Brown's guilty plea to the lesser affray charge.

Brown has remained on bail, having previously secured release on £5 million bail, which allowed him to continue touring across Europe and North America.Following Friday's hearing, he was granted bail again and is expected to return to court for sentencing on 26 October.

The case marks another legal challenge in the career of the American artist, who first achieved international fame in 2005 and has enjoyed continued commercial success.Brown won his first Grammy Award for Best R&B Album with 'F.A.M.E.' in 2011 and received a second Grammy in the same category earlier this year for '11:11 (Deluxe)'.The guilty plea resolves part of the legal proceedings while avoiding a trial on the more serious allegations that prosecutors have now dropped.
