The City of Johannesburg has referred 13 alleged financial misconduct cases involving approximately R4.07 billion to its independent Disciplinary Board for investigation.These referrals stem from allegations of unauthorized, irregular, fruitless, and wasteful expenditure across various municipal departments.

The city emphasized that the action is part of efforts to strengthen accountability and ensure compliance with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA).

While the referral does not equate to guilt, it allows the Disciplinary Board to conduct preliminary investigations to determine if further action, including disciplinary or criminal proceedings, is warranted.All affected officials retain their right to due process under South African law.
