Cockroach Janta Party holds first protest in Delhi over examination irregularities
Hundreds of people gathered at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on 6 June 2026 to participate in a protest organised by the satirical political group Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
The demonstration demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities and paper leaks in various entrance and recruitment examinations.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who travelled from the United States to attend the event, addressed the crowd and spoke about concerns that he could be arrested upon returning to India.
He said his family, particularly his mother, feared possible action against him because of his political activities, but he stressed that young people should not live in fear and should continue to raise their voices on public issues.
Dipke stated that he had mentally prepared himself for possible detention before landing in Delhi, although no such action was taken and the protest received permission from Delhi Police.Meanwhile, BJP leader Nitin Nabin made remarks widely interpreted as a response to the movement.
Without naming CJP directly, he said that India's youth were not anyone's 'puppet' and criticised attempts by individuals based abroad to influence young people.
He argued that the country's youth preferred constructive nation-building and warned against what he described as negative or anti-establishment politics. After several hours of protest and sloganeering, organisers concluded the gathering but announced a seven-day ultimatum to the government.
CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said that if Dharmendra Pradhan did not resign, or was not removed within a week, the campaign would be expanded across the country. The organisers described the movement as part of a broader effort to reform the education system.
