Ol Kalou MP aspirant Paul Waiganjo leaves DCP following disputed nomination results
A section of political leaders allied to President William Ruto from Western Kenya have sparked controversy after allegedly hinting at the possibility of using undemocratic means to secure victory for him in the 2027 general elections.
The remarks were reportedly made during a grassroots political forum held in Lugari, at the home of Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, where United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates had gathered.
Among those present were several influential leaders from the Western region, including Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, who is actively involved in mobilising support for President Ruto’s re-election campaign in the area.
During the meeting, both Deputy Governor Savula and Amisi Member of Parliament Charles Gimose were said to have made comments that appeared to suggest possible electoral manipulation in favour of the President. These statements have triggered concern among political observers and the public, especially given Kenya’s sensitive electoral history.
The discussion comes at a time when former Chief Justice David Maraga, who is also a declared 2027 presidential aspirant, has warned that any compromised election could risk plunging the country back into instability similar to the 2007 post-election violence.
The forum, which was intended as a mobilisation and strategy meeting for UDA grassroots structures, has now drawn attention due to the alleged remarks.
While political mobilisation is common ahead of elections, the suggestion of undemocratic tactics has raised debate on electoral integrity and democratic standards in Kenya as the country moves closer to the 2027 polls.
