Government considers IAF support for secure transport of NEET-UG retest papers
Residents of Jeppu Majila, Mangaluru, have expressed concerns regarding the new concrete road being laid under Phase-2 of the Mahatma Gandhi Nagaravikasa Yojana.
The construction on the 800-metre-long Jeppu Seminary View First Cross-Nagabana Road has raised the road level by approximately 10 inches, effectively covering the recently laid shoulder drain.
This has caused anxiety among locals, including elderly autorickshaw drivers, as runoff water from surrounding higher areas may now flow directly into their homes, potentially leading to water-logging during heavy rains. While the construction agency has installed a pipe to manage drainage, residents feel this measure may be insufficient.
The road package also includes new underground utility pipelines which, according to locals, are not properly connected to the existing water supply and power distribution networks.Narrow stretches of the road limit the possibility of additional roadside drains.
Some residents mentioned that they had invested in creating humps at their house entrances to prevent water ingress, which might now require further modification due to the raised road level. The State government has allocated ₹165 crore for this project under package 3 of the five packages in the scheme.Citizens have raised concerns about the lack of supervision by the Mangaluru City Corporation officials over the ongoing construction work.
