Government considers IAF support for secure transport of NEET-UG retest papers

The Centre is reportedly exploring the use of Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft to transport question papers for the NEET-UG retest scheduled on June 21, as part of enhanced security measures following concerns over paper leaks.

The proposal was discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, which also included Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, senior PMO officials, and representatives from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and other ministries.

According to officials, the idea is to strengthen the examination logistics chain under a ‘whole-of-government’ approach, ensuring maximum security and reducing any possibility of leakage during transportation.

While the use of IAF aircraft is being considered primarily due to time constraints and the need for higher security, no final approval has been taken yet.The proposal will be placed before Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a final decision.

If approved, IAF aircraft would be used to deliver sealed question paper packets to key regional centres across states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal, including cities like Lucknow, Patna, and Kolkata.

From these hubs, state authorities and police would handle further distribution to district-level centres and exam venues under strict custody protocols.

The meeting also reviewed the entire examination process, including paper setting, printing, storage, transportation routes, and last-mile delivery mechanisms.

Authorities are also considering stronger coordination between the Home Ministry, state police forces, and district administrations to ensure tighter monitoring.

The move comes after NEET-UG 2026 was cancelled on May 12 following allegations of a paper leak, with the CBI arresting 13 individuals linked to the case.
