Congress seeks Supreme Court-monitored inquiry into alleged irregularities in Ram Temple donation case
Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have raised serious allegations regarding irregularities in the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple donation and construction-related funds, calling for a high-level, Supreme Court-monitored investigation.
Congress leaders, including MP KC Venugopal, have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that the trust managing the Ram Temple was established by the Centre following the Supreme Court’s 2020 judgment, and therefore the government holds a moral responsibility to ensure transparency and accountability in handling public donations.
The party has described the alleged issue as a major scam involving misuse or misappropriation of donations meant for the temple, and has questioned the effectiveness of the current Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Uttar Pradesh government, alleging that it is only targeting smaller individuals while protecting those higher up in the hierarchy.
Similarly, AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal has claimed that only lower-level individuals have been arrested so far, while influential figures allegedly involved in corruption linked to land deals, construction activities, and donation management remain untouched.
He also questioned the composition of the trust overseeing the temple, pointing out that it includes officials appointed under the central government, thereby raising concerns about impartiality.
Both parties have demanded transparency and accountability, urging that the investigation should not be limited in scope and should identify all individuals involved, irrespective of their position.
The issue has sparked a broader political debate over governance, religious institution funding, and institutional oversight, with opposition parties insisting that public trust in such a significant religious project must be preserved through a fair and independent inquiry.
